This book is entertainingly genius but unfortunately I can only give 3.3 stars. Frankie's revenge to get back for his sister, Lou was payback-ed comes with consequence and danger. Anyway, enjoyed reading it along with the graphics in few pages

the main character was very unlikeable, honestly everyone was unlikeable except for the parents. and the ending did not make up for all the shitty things that everyone did. parts of it were enjoyable and then other parts made me want to put the book down and never pick it back up. but there was something there that kept me coming back. overall, disappointing

I picked this book up at a book fair, not knowing anything about it. What attracted me to it was that it was a novel/graphic novel hybrid which I’ve never seen before. The story itself was an easy read - nothing groundbreaking, but definitely enjoyable. Characters were pretty two dimensional, especially Lou and Rory who seem to have minimal reasons for their shitty actions. For some reason the characters reminded me of the TV show Daria, probably because Lou and Rory were both caricatures of a theatre girl and the hot, bitchy, manipulative girl, similar to how every Daria character is a dramatic version of a high school stereotype. The art in the book really added to the story, especially when the whacky sculptures came in. This was by no means the best book I’ve ever read, but I did really enjoy it!

Man, I am still marinating on this one. I loved the style of this book, and the blurring of art and text is a smart move. I like Frankie's voice, and the concept of a young artist discovering himself while also still being an emotional teenager. But the narrative doesn't really feel resolved at the end and we don't get to see everyone grow. I wanted more from this story, I really did.

I am conflicted about how I feel about this book. Somewhere in between 3.5 and 4 stars.

Stuff I liked:
-originality, the book felt fresh and way interesting.
-I am fascinated by street art, and I love books that have artsy main characters.
-the characters were quirky and unique, but completely normal and relatable.
-the graphic novel element/the illustrations were awesome!
-#brofriendship forever

Stuff I didn't like:
-some of the characters had no real redeeming qualities, and kind of just served as negative portrayals of the worst characteristics in females: manipulativeness, cattiness, and abuse of sex-appeal.
-sometimes I got really confused transitioning between illustration and text, because I was expecting text to further explain the action, like there were illustrations that were just on the pages to enhance the text, and some illustrations WERE the text.
-Our main character makes some really stupid decisions, it's frustrating. There was a point in the book that I thought I was going to put the book down and not finish, because Frankie had just become a self-righteous dumbass.
