This book was kinda boring.
I was looking for single parent troupe books and stumbled upon this one thinking it was good. Spoiler alert, it wasnt…. the beggining was boring, it took a while to get to the main action of the book, I even skipped a few pages.
The ending was nice, but honestly it really wasn't worth it, unfortunately.
Also the smut scenes made me laugh…. not in a good way :/ to cringy for my opinion

Tropes:
- single mom on the run
- age gap
- grump/ sunshine
- small town in Scottish highlands
- bodyguard
I’m having a difficult time trying to wrap my head around how I feel about this book…it was enjoyable (mostly) and I loved the whole idea of it, but some parts of it had me annoyed, I don’t want to spoil because this is an early arc review but I will tell you some of my feelings about it!
Number one- the MMC not being celibate after meeting FMC was truly so annoying and unnecessary! I mean it would quite literally not change the story AT ALL, if he just didn’t sleep with other women. It’s so annoying when authors write that in my opinion, I don’t want nor to I need to hear the MMC talk about a lay he just had (gross, no thank you! I’m reading to see the romance between the fmc and MMC not read about who he’s has sex with when it’s not the main character)
Number two - some parts were cringy and had me putting my iPad down, truly…I’m sorry but I just couldn’t with a couple parts!
Number three- the actual WHIPLASH the MMC kept giving us through almost 80% of the book (not kidding there) one moment he loves being around fmc and talking with her, then the next he’d quite literally IGNORE her existence for weeks, it was understandable at first, but then after six times? Like come on get a grip man and stop being such a coward.
Other then those two thing I CAN tell you, I’ll move onto parts I loved, the small town accept was great and I enjoyed seeing how involved everyone is, Callie (Sloane’s daughter, was such a sweetheart! I absolutely adored her.)
I got through the book very quickly and it kept me on my toes a lot! And I honestly did really enjoy it, it’s just the unfortunately some of the things in the book made me lower my rating to about a 4 star, I still recommend it! Especially if you don’t mind the guy not being celibate.
I don’t think I’ll be reading anything Else from this author though (I’ve heard people say she writes the dead ex/wife trope and OWD a lot and I just really hate those tropes, and having the fmc feel second best to other women In the MMC’s life, it’s just a preference of mine!)

I really enjoyed this one.
Spoiler
I didn't really like that Sloan was trying to rush Walker into talking about his most traumatic experience. I understand that she wanted to be let in but they hadn't even been dating that long and he was slowly opening up about other things. She should have given him some time.Moderate: Sexual violence, Kidnapping, and Gun violence
Minor: Rape

there are way to many sentences and names in this book that shouldn’t exist. also the casual subplot of the murder of an I housed person isn’t cute and I really am uninterested in reading the second book. ngl it was entertaining but too many ‘wtf’ moments to look past.
