I thought maybe this wouldn’t go as hard as it did when I was a kid but actually I think it goes harder.

I am not ashamed to say that I bawled for practically the entire ending 30% of this book. Hot damn can Suzanne Collins write, and each of her series has interesting and important underlying commentary on society and its dynamics. I truly did not expect much going into this series since it’s for a younger audience but it really blew me away, especially the later books in the series, which is uncommon for me. On the one hand I wish she had wrapped things up a little neater, but on the other hand I do appreciate that I can imagine things my own way based on how I interpret her characters, and find my own ending that gives me peace. What tragedy happened in this book, but what a heartwarming and important journey it was.
