This was a wonderful book. I am not surprised by that considering that I’ve read Emily Henry’s books before. The only disappointing part was that I expected to cry and didn’t. That definitely doesn’t take away from how much I loved the romance between the main characters. I think the book was also extremely funny at times. January and Gus’s banter was perfection, absolutely my favorite part. I also really appreciated how we got to see their books unfolded at the end. 100% would recommend this book for summer.

I was charmed by it :)

Maybe it's the English-major/writer in me, but I loved the premise of this book. January and Gus are two writers (fairly successful in their own genres) having writer's block and they come up with a competition to get over it. Again, totally my style because I thrive on competition, especially if it has a deadline. I liked their banter, for the most part, and I thought they were well-written and had significant development for a novel in a genre that isn't known for its deep character development. There were several heavy topics in the books. January's struggle with her memories of her dad are especially poignant and relatable. Some of the "romantic" scenes were a little forced or awkward, but it didn't stop me from thoroughly enjoying the book.

I loved this book! I appreciated how Emily Henry provided depth to the heartbreaking and fraught father-daughter relationship on top of the fluffy, romantic main plot. The characters and storyline were very well-developed yet it was still a page-turner. Definitely the best contemporary romance I've picked up in a while!

This book had a lot more going on than the blurb suggests. It's largely about 2 people tackling grief and opening themselves up to love again. Well written with compelling, flawed characters and a lot of emotional payoff. Recommend!

Fun and fairly light which I definitely needed after Pretty Girls. Weird that both involve a man with a secret second life though 🤔
