I almost feel guilty giving this book just 3-stars... it was good, but absolutely not great.
Gabriel is no longer head of "The Office" and is now back in Italy in retirement.
And so begins a problem... an old friend comes to him for help and there it all begins. For me the story was very predictable... each bit of the story could have been a bit from another story. Yes, it was very predictable... and not in a good way. But it was also missing something... Gabriel's team. I missed each and every one of them and I realized how much they make the story for me. This was definitely a miss for me, however ymmv.
(2.5 stars round up to three)

sort of boring
I love this series but the last few (including this one) follow a pattern that is old and boring. Not a lot of drama or action. Getting staleā¦.

Looking back at my moods for this book, I put relaxing as one of them because it was a very well executed story. The plot itself was fun and unique, and I'm loving this fine art genre of mysteries. Whoever, the larger direction of the story, a mystery, good guy and a bad guy, plan that comes to fruition, those are all story devices that are well known. They aren't bad, I love them in fact, they are just well known. Overall this is a really great story! Interesting subject matter, interesting character. Of course the main character is a wealthy, wonderful human. At some point it is fun to read books about characters who seem to have everything they want and deserve it all at the same time! I wish I had understood a little more about the tracking of the paintings, that got hard to keep track of. I don't know a lot about painters so I felt like I was trying to learn as I went. Which is fine, I just lost track a little bit at times. I don't think this book was extremely tense, but it definitely kept me interested and I wanted to see how it turned out.
