Love & Estrogen is a lot of things at once: a love story, a study of people, an overview of what it means to be transgender, and- most of all- immensely personal. Samantha Allen wrote a beautiful story that leaves you feeling closer to other people. It’s real and lovely.

I’m a lesbian married to a trans woman and I often don’t find good representation of what a relationship like ours looks like. Finding a story like this means relating to it so much more than you might to, say, a straight romance novel (nothing wrong with those!). I truly believe you will love this story no matter what your background is, but as someone who loves a person that’s gone through some of the struggles Samantha has, this story now has a permanent place in my heart.

This was a sweet and well-written piece about a trans woman learning how to be her real self while finding love. It was funny, thoughtful and a little heart wrenching-- I am glad I read it. Bonus points for references and cited works for further reading.

Judging from the title alone, I thought this might be about menopause or something. As I began to read Samantha's story, however, I became engrossed in a lovely tale that was something very different, but also much appreciated. There is a dearth of literature involving transgender women, so I was glad at first just for the fact that her story exists! As another reviewer commented, some relationships don't even survive money issues, much less sexual identities and reassignment surgery!

Also really enjoyed all the footnotes. I'm a sucker for footnotes.

An insightful journey of a transgender woman finding herself.
