I was thoroughly enjoying the first half of this book, unravelling the threads of a very convoluted cult-mystery, but the second half really disappointed me, as it had quite a few unbelievable twists (even for an over-the-top thriller), and a cliché wrap-up, that wasn't fulfilling. I also did not particularly like the characters, even the ones I felt the author wanted to show in a sympathetic light, so a lot of the intended emotional incidents did not leave as big an impact as they should have. On a more positive note, though, the writing is well done and the author clearly has a talent at creating a vast catalog of characters, and playing with formatting in a fun way, such as creating various legal documents, etc, to give the reader a plethora of details and multiple viewpoints, so it may be quite an engaging read for those interested in dark, obscure thrillers with a large cast.

There's so much for me to unpack about this book...
Firstly, the beginning was a bit confusing and the immediate rush of introduction of multiple characters that all seemed to play some significant role within the story, also added to that. After the plot slowly...very slowly, unfolded I got excited and intrigued, but quickly got disappointed with the lack of taking advantage of such a great plot idea, which led to the insufferable feeling to continue reading (I hate not finishing books,so it took me forever to finish).

However, each character seemed to have their own distinctive voice within their pov's which I liked a lot. I would say as well that the story did pick up some interest here and there and did have me questioning if this is fiction or based on real experiences.

Favorite Character: Elise Blue
Favorite line(s):
-"If you don't hold on to something, you fall for anything."
-"Regret and sorrow, pain and loss, are just part of the deal, the price, for all the joy and beauty and love we do experience."

fast paced thriller based upon a cult in modern times. plenty of twists and turns, characters that had me hooked, and a storyline that makes you relate to how real it could be. my only main gripe was that it was difficult to follow at times with the chapters changing between characters and taking a oageborbtwo to realise which character was writing.

3.5 stars for this thriller

It has an interesting premise regarding cultists. The beginning was a tad confusing as you're piecing together current events with the past timeline. There's a lot of characters and names.
I had theories early on about certain things. Even more later. They all panned out, but it didn't make the story predictable.

While there are parts that are long winded, the story still captures you and leaves you wanting to conclude this with a happily ever after. Do we get one? Well, you'll have to read.
