This one took me a little longer to get into than the first book, which is kind of a shame because Zed's adorable and Dani's a pretty cool character.

There were some elements of this volume that felt a bit same-y to the first that probably didn't help and now I'm wondering if the rest of the series is going to follow the same structure.

The tropes have at least been changed up a bit from book one and I am still interested in the overarching plot though so I will continue these books, I just haven't found the small bads all that impressive. I guess that's the point though, gotta build up to the big bad.

A fun continuation in the Mystic Bayou series. Lots of supernatural creatures and a healthy dose of magic. The tone is lighthearted and playful. And there is good tension and intrigue which kept me engaged. There is even a nod to body positivity, which I found delightfully refreshing.

## Tropes
-Looks like they could kill you, is a cinnamon roll
-Small town romance
-Found family

## 📖 My Thoughts
I love this series so much. Its so light-hearted abd easy to listen to. I don't really see the twists coming but I also am too chill listening to do much more than go with the flow. I love Zed so so much, he is literally faultless as a person. Dani was great, very strong and loveable. I would highly recommend this series

Spice was not a main focus of the story. They were sweet. Nothing really stand out happened.

I'm not sure why, but Zed and Dani's book just didn't fully work for me. I loved Zed in the previous book, but I felt pretty bored this time around. I didn't connect with either character and the rift plot line wasn't as compelling. There were certainly sweet and funny moments, but overall this was a miss for me. The narration kept me listening though and Amanda Ronconi and Jonathan Davis were wonderful again (even if I didn't love Zed's accent in general).
