"Ivy's Envy," at 140 pages seems more a novella than a novel, and it seems to be just the right length for this tale of terror. Since I am loathe to do spoilers, it is difficult to say much about the story itself.

Ivy James is a beautiful sociopath bent on getting her way no matter what. She is given to romantic obsession. She is certainly a strong and flawed female lead character but not one I would want a daughter of mine to emulate.

Latashia Figueroa is, for the most part, a good writer; she shows promise to become a great writer. There is no doubt that she engages her reader; "Ivy's Envy" is not something I could put down without finishing. That said, I would add that this story is in the 'definitely not for everybody' category. It is graphic in more ways that one.

As a long-time reader in the horror genre, I found that as I read, I saw "Ivy's Envy" moving toward one ending and then another. I am happy to report, I was wrong in my expectations. I think that one of the most difficult things to overcome in horror is the cliché ending. You may think you know what's coming here, but you probably don't.

I received a copy of "Ivy's Envy" in exchange for a review. I expected something more in the realm of romance or romantic suspense. I got horror. Remember, you don't always get what you expect... and that can be a good thing.

So, in this very very short story of just 81 pages we have a beautiful growing psychological thriller! I loved every aspect of it! The girl waking up in totally darknes, having no idea who she is, the beloved boy, Thomas and office "flirtations" gone totally wrong. This book is packed and honestly in 15 minutes you can read the whole book and have the experience of a 300+ pages thriller! Can't wait to read the rest!
P.S: I heard this is a trilogy!
