This is one of the most comforting books I've ever read. I reread it at least twice a year because it makes me so happy. Yan Xiaohan doesn't believe he deserves good things, and I love seeing Fu Shen prove him wrong at every turn. I love how communicative and thoughtful they are, and how their misunderstandings get resolved. I so desperately want what they have!!!

All that aside, the plot is also interesting and easy to follow. As expected, all the emperors were terrible people who did terrible things. The ending is satisfying for a number of reasons, and even the little extra chapters at the end make my heart do a little happy dance.
