So good! I didn’t give it 5 stars because I feel like there were some slow parts I could do without but still a great read. If you like history mysteries mixed with young adult issues I think you would love this. Overall really liked it!

Really good book! I had no idea what it was about but I was pleasantly shocked. I’ve never read anything like it. Very intriguing but confusing at times.

This was such an unexpected treasure! Being a Mainer and finding out a terrible tragedy happened in the early 1900’s on an island here was shocking. The writer did a beautiful job of sharing the truths of the horrors that happened on Malaga Island while also creating a great fictional story. I’ll be thinking about this one for awhile and digging in to learn more about Malaga Island.

This haunting novel sucked me in on the first page. it’s Based around a true historical event in Maine, which usually isn’t my thing, but this book changed that completely. again 10/10.

3 Stars - I Liked It
I read this book in a day, so clearly the pacing was at least engaging and kept me reading. I wouldn’t say this is an altogether unique or “new” story, however it was a good afternoon distraction from the real world. With themes of inequality, race, family, and love - this book did a good job of creating a realistic story with hints of supernatural flair. Most interesting was the true story woven into this book, of a small island in Maine whose people were forced out of their homes in a shameful display of human atrocity. This book helped educate me to a real life tragedy, and in doing so I’d like to think those people stay alive in some small way.
