Interesting concept, lame story. Calling your infant daughter "the kitten" is just so ... off putting.

This was a real classic case of loving the idea of a story...but absolutely hating the execution of it.

The premise sounds so intriguing! A technology that can transfer your consciousness to another person. It sounds incredible and terrifying.

The story though?...eh...it's a no from me.

The actual writing style got on my nerves. Every time the author was wanting a word emphasized it was underlined...and that happened damn near every page. Ex. "I need you to see this" "I have the money". It happened so much it would take me out of scene cause I was annoyed the author thought I needed help taking things serious.

Also near 50% it's suddenly told that our main character is a Black woman. An awkward conversation then follows and it felt really clunky and off.

The ending just straight up sucked. I guessed where things were going in regard to the "twist", and the ending just boiled down to
the main character giving a 4 min speech at a televised event to call out the bad guys

One thing I hated and just could not get over was how whenever the main character Gabby or her husband Paul spoke about their infant baby they called her "the Kitten". Every. Single. Time.!!!!!
"the Kitten cried" "Can you get the Kitten her bottle?" it gave me MAJOR ICK!!!!!!!!!! Who out here calling they baby "the Kitten"? They also used "Kitty Cat" instead of the baby's name or just saying the baby. I do have a theory as to why ->
Okay so I think this was done because of the major twist being that in the other pov of the story it's actually Gabby in her daughter's body. I think this was a way for the author to make the baby an..object?... Or like he was forshadowing that the baby is a pawn. Again, poor execution here if this was the intent.

I think this was partly bad timing in terms of when I read this. This book just felt like bad thing after bad thing happening, with no redemption. Frankly, it was a bit frustrating and depressing to read. In a week where I was looking for a form of escapism, this just felt like a complete downer.

I really loved the premise of this book, but it got to be a bit confusing as the novel went on. I really enjoyed the Gabby chapters that too place in what began as the present. I did not so much enjoy the Annami chapters that took place in the future.

Spoiler
The confusing part for me was all the body swapping, and the rules for who could flash and under what circumstances, and into whom.

The alternating chapters took a bit of suspense out of the present day chapters because you knew that Gabby would lose control of her invention and it would be used for reasons she didn't approve of.

I hated that Paul died. I get why because it fit into the plot, but it was unexpected.

DNF. Body swaps are interesting especially in science gone wrong but this is just not connecting with me. DNF at 25%. 2
