Good female-focused spy novel. The story focuses on Lyndsey Duncan, freshly sent home from assignment in Beirut for getting involved with an operative from another agency. She befriends the Red Widow, another spy whose much-loved husband was killed during a mission gone awry. As she learns more about the Red Widow, as well as gets investigated for her own misconduct, she starts to see that the mission in which the Widow's husband was killed wasn't as cut and dried as the CIA has led her and others to think. Interesting insights into CIA procedures.

The book took a long time for me to get into. I felt that the pace was a bit slow and the characters weren't endearing. For me a three stars is an enjoyable but not extraordinary read. This was a little bit underwhelming. Maybe I'll read the sequel (maybe it gets better). But otherwise, I feel like I would have wanted another spy novel as my first foray into the espionage genre.

A good CIA thriller with female leads. Uneven in the pacing but overall enjoyable.

So I’ll admit that I did not have very high expectations of this book mainly because it was about spies and I’m not one to read books about spies and government stuff. But I was very pleased at how intrigued I was the whole time reading and constantly wanting to know what was going to happen next.

I will say that it is pretty obvious and you can guess how it’s going to end but I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. Also, I have little to no knowledge about the CIA, FBI, etc. so if anything in the book was off or unrealistic I wouldn’t know.

Definitely a good thriller book that has you wanting to find out what’s going to happen next! Definitely recommend.
