   A mix of memoir and science about death and our relationship with it.
   I think I came at this from a unique perspective of having come close to death, medically, multiple times, and not having a fear of dying/being dead. The only part of death I fear is the potential pain before the actual event.
   The author said a lot I agree with, like how we should focus on having a good life while we're here and not focus so much on how long we live, but on the quality of it.
   Also, this book inspired me to finally request the paperwork to donate my body to science, which I've been planning to do, but haven't gotten around to. Which I encourage anyone to do if they can't/don't want to be an organ donor.
   Overall it was an excellent book and I learned a lot. It had a bit of true crime but was more of a memoir and science book.

Narrator Rating: 4.5 stars
  The narrator was good if a bit dry. But it was appropriate for the subject matter.

An excellent book! It was very quick and easy to understand. Not to mention there's a good sense of humor to it. Overall, a very good book about death and forensics.

This memoir has inspired me to one day delve into anatomy, a subject I, until very recently, found uninteresting and dated. How wrong I was. I want to start a blog where I recommend books just so I can put this on there. I'm beyond shocked at the fact that I haven't been recommended this before, and will be righting this wrong, because wow. The life this woman has lived is impressive and enrapturing. The descriptions of her experiences are as rich as her humour. I was simply hypnotised. Not to mention heartbroken.. this is absolutely not for the faint of heart, but if you feel prepared to face the horrors of human cruelty, read this book. You will not regret it.

I really enjoyed this book, which provided a good balance between interesting case studies and the philosophical musings of the author.  Although I don't agree with all of her thoughts and opinions, I feel she did a good job explaining and exploring them, using her life experiences as a springboard.  I especially appreciated the respect with which every topic was approached.  That said, although I did learn some interesting tidbits about her field of work, and found the book interesting and entertaining, it did not contain any big "wow" or "a-ha!" moments that would be necessary for me to rate it higher.  Still very much recommended for those interested in the subject, though.  Note that some of the cases explored in the book, especially related to children and war, are quite disturbing.
