Escaping Wonderland, one of my favourite books by the writing duo who publish under the name Tiffany Roberts, is a loose sci-fi retelling of Alice in Wonderland with a romance at its centre. Wonderland is a simulation in which Alice finds herself trapped after being pronounced unstable by her family’s corrupt psychiatrist and admitted to an off-world asylum from where no patient is known to return. There, Alice finds others like her who find themselves unable to differentiate between simulation and reality, from their long stay in a world full of danger and chaos, where the rules of logic and science do not apply. Amongst them is the equally mysterious Shadow, with glowing eyes, sharp claws and a haunting grin, who is just as dangerous but might be Alice’s only shot at escape.

This science fiction romance retelling of Alice in the Wonderland holds back no punches. The authors explore many serious themes in this story, and I found the emotional and psychological elements of the story immensely realistically handled. Despite exploring some very serious (and possibly triggering) topics, I thought the authors dealt with them with a great deal of sensitivity. With the exception of the somewhat exaggeratedly sinister villain, the main characters are written in a complex and layered manner. The characters are fascinating, with a fairly strong female protagonist and an oddly charming male love interest. The world of Escaping Wonderland, i.e., "Wonderland" and its denizens have been very imaginatively written. The uncanniness that Lewis Carroll's original masterpiece exudes is amplified ten-fold in this story, and that makes for a very thrilling read.

I literally can not finish. Shadow is basically the omly thing that i like in this book. The wonderland part doesnt feel like wonderland. And it was kinda putting me in a reading slump

Certainly an interesting retelling

This book is well written, the story advances nicely, and you get to know the characters well-enough for what it is. That said, this is rather hints at a being a 'smut' book... it's very vanilla in that respect.

This has to be one of my fave wonderland versions ever. Shadow aka Cheshire cat, was a fantastic character. the premise was amazing too. all scifi, and insanely odd in a very wonderland kind of way. It's a rereader for sure!
