It felt like eating a very dry, very tasteless piece of pie. This book takes a while to really take off - a dry top crust, if you will - and while there's a juicy middle full of tasty adventure, a sibling rivalry, and a crumbling dystopian government, we end up with a soggy bottom ending for our brothers.

A proposal from a beloved character to another (who doesn't even get a POV chapter this time around)
couldn't save a lackluster ending where
a big bad mafioso gets into a melee battle with a teenager??? Our main protagonist teaches his younger brother how to basically do parkour for like 15 minutes in the previous chapter, but suddenly he's also great at grappling and disarming grown men?? With guns!! And knives?! The final discussion between the main antagonist and our new hero, Eden, about right and wrong whilst grappling/parkour-ing was... a choice.
C'mon, I know this is YA and there's a certain level of cheese I should expect, but it's like author Marie Lu doesn't trust us to get the thesis of this godforsaken novel unless she writes it out for us 10 times. An unbelievable (negative) and sputtering final battle for a fascinating Legend series character like Eden, who deserved better.

This story was ultimately unnecessary, as we explored the VR tech in the Warcross series in a more successful and exciting way. There just wasn't much to root for. The stakes weren't high enough if we knew
Daniel and Eden were returning to the Republic anyway

This was pretty nice. But it's a very simple storyline. Good guys, verses bad guy and coming of adulthood. It gave me Big Hero 6 feel. Happy ending, of course, and the romance is typical.

Coming late into this fandom, the whole fourth-book-even-though-the-third-one-was-supposed-to-be-the last thing didn't bother me, since I went straight from finishing Champion to starting Rebel. The chapters concerning Eden were, admittedly, a bit boring, though it was interesting to see him grow from being Daniel's innocent little brother to an independent thinker who yearns to be recognized by himself. However, I loved the chapters that Day (Daniel) narrated. For a character who is now 27 and suffered memory loss, I feel that it is very realistic, and his encounters with June gave me closure regarding their relationship. I loved the ending of Champion and thought it would be just fine by itself. However, Rebel truly exceeded my expectations for the result of Day and June's relationship—
Spoilerabsolutely love the proposal idea Day had
—which is why Lu's novel deserves a full five stars.

I never thought that anything would top Champion, where the story ended, but as always I was wrong and I got a closure, an amazing ending to the Legend Series. Beautiful and it tells the story all over again from a new and bright perspective. I loved that it focused on the future and what it held rather than what the past was. Best book I read in January 2023 and definitely recommend.

IM DYING SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE. i'll say nothing. this is so precious. this whole series has such a big place in my heart that it hurts to leave the world behind. there's nothing I
i'll say, it was amazing. and ... um ... excuse me??! that last chapter?? june's answer???? please just kill me. i'm dying of overjoy. i swear my jaw hurts from grinning like this and i'll probably lose my voice after squealing so long but i can't resist. i fell in love with them all over again.

I REPEAT, IM DYING SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE.
should i talk about eden, too? and the plot? yes, i should. do i want to? no, i just care about june and day. but i'll give a short remark. eden was an okay character and i kinda didn't enjoy his presence in the first half of the book, but he had some good character development. pressa was okay, never cared about her. eden and pressa? again, never really cared, but sure, carry on with your lives. the plot was really good, though. i love how marie lu always tries to aim for justice. JUNE AND DANIEL? WELL I CAN TALK ABOUT THEM ALL DAY. but i won't because i don't know if it's even possible for me to express how much they mean to me. i love you guys, and i am so so so happy.
consider me dead, yeah?

Yes.
Always.
Forever.
