That moment when you'r  reading a book and realise that the FMC is not your type of woman, for me that was when my favourite (side) character tries to kill the FMC, and you're actually hoping she dies......

The societal flaws the author confronts with clever telling of the lead's experiences is so on point. I did have to put the book down from time to time just to process the cluster-fck of crap-sht history of human power grabs. Because you know, set in a fictional world with all sorts of fascinating creatures, the author didn't miss a beat and the truth of all that she brought to light  required some proper grieving.

The examinations of colonialism,  villianisation of witches, and blatantly tolerated sexism, massively outplays the handful of non-plot beats that felt repetitive. That being said, the repetition may bring a sense of who our lead character is in the deepest corners of her heart.

Bang on. Very much recommend.

I would not say that this is a good book, but it's one of those books that I will eat up every time. The plot is mid at best, but interesting enough that I'll keep reading, and I do enjoy the spicy scenes. Patiently awaiting the 3rd books release..

  • 2.5🌶️. The 2.5 spicy rating is for the quantity of spicy scenes not quality. This book is heavy on the adult content, which is good for those going in with that expectation.
  • This books plot was all over the place. The writing didn’t do the universe/ potential plot justice.
  • Isolde found any and every reason to fight with Adrian and it was exhausting. It felt like she bashed him 90% of the book. She went from the most loveable character to the most annoying really quickly.
  • This was a second book blunder for me, so hopefully book 3 may tie it back to the main plot line when it comes out.
  • Killian, Adrian and Daroc stole the spotlight of the book for me.
  • The concepts were there just poorly executed. It wasn’t terrible but it was far from great if you are reading for anything other than vampire spice.
  • The twist at the end was predictable but nice.

WTF?! This book is a roller coaster ride and the ending is… ugghh. The spicy scenes are A1 but there’s too much happening for true character development and too much to unpack. Reading the 3rd when it’s out bc I must know what happens next… but also, what the actual 🤬

I really enjoyed the first book so I was so hopeful for this one!

The plot didn't advance much, and when it was progressing, it was hard to follow. The flashbacks were confusing and the alternate POV wasn't used enough to be effective, I often forgot that I was reading from another perspective.

The chemistry between Adrian and Isolde is gone, all they do is argue and sleep together.
Isolde becoming a shifter feels unplanned
The whole thing in general just felt different, the vibe is off.

That being said, I do look forward to the next book, I am hopeful for Isolde and Adrian and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they can reignite their spark and at least have somewhat of a happy ending.
