I enjoyed it but honestly it wasn’t anything special.

I just felt like the romance with Warden (inevitable as it was) was a bit rushed. I didn’t follow how Paige got from hating him to loving him. Overall a very enjoyable book though!

Exposition dump here, exposition dump there. Sort of interesting world, but the real reason I got this was because there were (no joke) six copies on the library shelf. Was curious as to what kind of book was that over ordered

- my biggest complaint is that I don’t find the world or the “magic system” all that compelling, but I also think this might be because this is the first book of a series that has a large scope so it could technically be 15% of the story and I maybe see it potentially becoming something I find more interesting
- things I didn’t like: all the different types of voyants that are mostly useless, this alien race the “Rephaite” (don’t think it goes with the vibe of the book that was more paranormal), Floxy and othe “drugs” (more steampunk, again don’t think it fits in the book.
- it kind of felt like the author had so many different ideas and she put them all into the book and they don’t fit cohesively or create a compact image of the world
- things I liked: the mystery surrounding Paige and Warden’s relationship, I love a good inter-species, forbidden romance and I think that is where this is headed, and I also think it is one of the main pillars the story is built upon so I want to read how it is developed but I’m not sure if I want to read it enough that I would read 7 books
- On my own I probably wouldn’t continue with the series but I do have an autographed copy of the second book at home so 😬

So it’s pretty confusing- she doesn’t explain what all of these things mean- but you learn as you go. If there’s a prequel- or a list of things/powers/beings- I’d want to read that first. I did quite enjoy it though! Made me order a couple more by this author. I’ll wait to read the updated versions of this series as they release.
