Another cute, sweet romance.

I was sad to leave the immediate Chase family. It took me a little bit to get into this story and invest in the characters because they were kind of new. But I got there and enjoyed it.

I liked that Lily and Rand worked things out. They didn't give up on each other. When conflict came up he didn't just leave and give up. He was determined they would be together. And for the most part she believed in him. I loved that! So different from the previous book with her sister Violet. Definitely liked this sister and story better.

It was fun that there was a silly cat that followed her everywhere, but the other animals that followed her was a little too silly for me...I can understand the cat and it's cute, but the other animals were too much.

Also, I wish there was an epilogue.

Sometimes, when I'm stuck and can't figure out what to read, I turn to a light romance, figuring that it will cleanse the palate and get me in the reading mood, again. Which, I guess, this did. But, boy, just barely.

This romance is unconvincing and convoluted. Apparently, the hero, Rand, "pre" fell in love with the heroine, Lily, when he danced with her at her sister's wedding, four years before. Oh, she was 14 at the time, he was 19. Icky. And her sister, Rose, one year older, "fell" for him when he danced with her at the same wedding. That dilemma--how can Lily allow herself to be with Rand when he is loved by her sister--occupies the first third of the book. This isn't much of a dilemma. It's crystal clear that Rand only has eyes for Lily (though why that is isn't entirely clear), and very quickly clear that Lily returns his affection (it takes her about 2 conversations longer to fall for him).

Lily and Rand also have no real flaws, which, I guess, makes them the perfect couple. She's unworldly good with animals--she's got a quasi Disney Snow White/Sleeping Beauty/Cinderella effect going on (admittedly, she doesn't sing along with them as they clean the house, but it's still pretty magical). She's also "nice"--how do I know that? She and her best friend spend several pages discussing how "nice" she is; and she spends a fair amount of time congratulating herself on being so nice (of course, because she's so nice, it isn't supposed to come off as self-congratulation). And Rand is honest, fair, selfless, and true. I liked him a bit more, probably because (a) wild animals don't follow him everywhere he goes, and (b) he doesn't describe himself as "nice."

And then the plot becomes increasingly convoluted. Most of these types of romances end with the engagement, but this one drags on and on. There are supposedly complicated family dynamics to manage on both sides, mysteries to unravel, and tensions to soothe.
SpoilerThankfully, however, the bad guy writes everything down, even if it is in code, so it all works out in the end.
