So Damn Lucky starts on a downer Teddie is overseas chasing his dreams and has left Lucky along and she is beginning to doubt their relationship. There have been so many changes in Lucky’s life since the first book in this series and for the first time it appears that things are looking pretty down for her. There are still sexual tension between Lucky and two men who work in the hotel, Dane and the chef. Lucky is also unsure how long she will be able to keep the big secret about being the Big Boss’ daughter. There is a lot going on and then things become even stranger when a magician dies during a stunt and then just disappears. As always Lucky feels that she has to figure out what is going on.

This was a whirlwind of a story for me because there is just so much going on. That being said, I found there to be a very nice balance between the action and adventure parts of the story and the relationships, romantic and not. The one character issue I have with Lucky is that she says one thing and acts in a completely different manner when it comes to the romantic side of her life. With all that she has going on between her crazy job, parents who have reconnected, and the mystery she is trying to solve, I just don’t know how she has time at act upon all of the different men she is attracted too. And really how she can make decisions with one important person not even being there. As a whole, I think that I happy with the outcome of this story and where I think it might be going next. There are some major changes on the forefront and I think that they are going to be very exciting.

I really enjoy Deborah Coonts fun writing style and how she brings each and every character to life in such interesting manners. Normally, I think that I would be irritated with a story line of UFOs and magicians but Ms. Coonts found a way for even me to enjoy it. Perhaps it was the distraction of everything else going on. Overall, I am looking forward to book #4, I really hope there will be one.

Lucky O’Toole is the head of Customer Relations at the Babylon in Las Vegas. She has been invited to a farewell party in honor of the forty year run of the Calliope Burlesque Cabaret at the Athena Resort and Casino. It seems that the farewell party would not be a party without a big surprise. That is correct. Famed magician, Dimitri Fortunoff is performing as the grand finale. Dimitri will perform Harry Houdini’s famous Chinese Water Torture Cell trick. Something goes terribly wrong and Dimitri ends up dead.

Lucky is on the case. She is assisted by Detective Romeo. This case will not be so easy to solve. Their main witness has gone missing.

This book was crazy and kooky in a good way. Lucky is my kind of gal. She has the brains and brawn. She goes after her man or woman and does not stop until she has caught them. This book had some interesting characters. Which I would expect when this series is based in Las Vegas. The past two books, I was on the fence about and they were alright but with this book, I enjoyed it more. While, with any mystery story, there are the predictable moments but on the other hands, this book had a fun twist. It dealt with the illusion of magic. The ending was a good one. I will probably check out the next Lucky book. Ms. Coonts reminds me of author, Toni McGee Causey.

I don't think quite as good as the first two, but I still love this series and can't wait for the next one.

Lucky O'Toole has a great life. She is head of Customer Relations for the Babylon resort, she has a lot of respect in the community, she has a set of parents who love her, and a boyfriend who may or may not want to commit. Well, that last part might not be so great.

I love this series. I never know what kind of adventure I will be starting when I open the next book. I know I can count on great characters getting into all kinds of trouble. And lots of humor. And there's always the mystery that Lucky has to solve but that's what makes this series a page turner. How can so much go wrong? It's so much fun trying to figure out how it's all going to turn out.

I enjoy being a part of Lucky's world and I can't wait to start my next adventure with Lucky and her crew.

This was close to being four stars as I liked the parts dealing with Lucky -- life, loves, dealing with her "unusual" parents, the Vegas setting -- but couldn't get into the whole magicians/UFO story. Looking forward to the next one!

This is the third in the Lucky O’Toole mystery series (WANNA GET LUCKY and LUCKY STIFF), featuring the hotel casino customer service representative extraordinaire. Lucky can handle even the thorniest issues that Las Vegas can throw at her--bondage balls, adult movie conventions, complicated X-rated situations in hotel rooms—with aplomb and finesse. But Lucky’s personal life poses bigger challenges, namely a mother who owns a bordello in Pahrump and a father who is the...OK, I'm not telling as I don’t want to spoil the first two books. And, of course, she has a few man problems, namely Teddie, Dane, and Chef Tastycakes.

The setting of Las Vegas is portrayed very well and the love the author has for the city clearly shines through, plus the character development throughout the series is very good. If the latest book has any weakness it is that the mystery seems to be almost an afterthought, but since I like my mystery series to have a strong thread of character development and a well-drawn setting, it didn’t really matter.

Readalikes: Readers of Sue Grafton and Marcia Muller may find these a little weak in the mystery department but Janet Evanovich fans may enjoy the mayhem that ensues once Lucky gets involved with chasing the bad people. Like Stephanie Plum, Lucky can be somewhat inept but unlike Stephanie, her smarts more than make up for it.

Another rollicking Lucky adventure. Fast paced & twisty. Lucky comes up against magicians, Area 51 conspiracy, missing persons, & of course her mom. Lucky & the Big Boss making shocking announcements & Lucky trying to juggle Teddie, Dane, & the new French chef. Who will have her heart?

Who knew magic in Vegas could be so tricky?!?
