Chick lit all the way, but fun. I could easily see it as a Four Weddings and a Funeral type movie. (and of course I'm dating myself by saying that!)

This was my 2nd Jill Mansell book, and now it did make me read more. There was drama, romance, and nothing was rushed. I liked that.

The story is about Cleo who works as a chauffeur. All is well, and she has a great boyfriend, until the day Johnny LaVenture comes back. And she hates him, and with reason since he gave her this nickname that ruined her school years, among other things. But he is so hot and hard to resist. Then there is the story about Cleo's sister Abby who is older and in a happy marriage, but they never got any kids and this saddens her. And soon things start to happen in this sleepy English village.

There is much drama, I can't go into details, but secrets are revealed, foundations are shaken, and perfect boyfriends are not so perfect after all. Abby and Cleo are the main characters, but we also get to follow Cleo's friend Ash, who is really shy around women he likes, but on the air, he is Mr perfect. So there is a lot of things happening, and a lot of relationships that comes together or needs to be fixed.

Like I mentioned, I enjoyed that there was no rush. No one fell madly in love and married the next day. No things took their time, it felt very real. Some were stubborn, and some just hoped for things to come. A truthful tale about romance, and everyday life.

This book did make me want to go to this English village and drink some tea. This is a great book to read this fall, perhaps while drinking some tea ;)

Blodeuedd's Cover Corner: I have mixed feelings, I don't like it, but at the same time it's cute and fits the book.

Final thoughts: It was sweet, and I could not put it down. I just wanted to know.

Reminded me of Marian Keyes in the way multiple stories were intertwined, lots to like here, good characters, surprising twists, well written. Sometimes the way these books (i.e. the chick-lit I have read) are written though, the main female character is kind of a mess, always doing embarrassing things, describing herself in such negative ways, you wonder why the romantic interest is there at all. What is there to like exactly? I guess they are trying to make the characters relatable? Does not work for me though.

Disliked Tom a lot, he needed to grow a backbone. Couple gets together in last 3 pages of the book and he is already declaring his undying love, so a bit unrealistic, you don't really ever get why he likes her so much.

One of the few books by Jill that didn't work for me. I usually love her village antics, but this felt too much like a soap opera. Too much stupid behaviour by many and few characters to really root for.

This was a fun, light read about changing over time and second chances. Cleo is convinced Johnny is going to be a serious issue in her life when he returns to town. For me, Cleo was the larger issue with her awkward, passive aggressive tendencies but she is, ultimately, a likeable person- she even helps out her school tormentor who appears not to have changed at all.
I enjoyed the relationship building that appeared when Cleo let her guard down and the fact that poor old Johnny sat through all of the weirdness with a smile.
Great book for a day at the beach or after work to make you smile.
