Brilliant and you can read without having read the first. I am obsessed with the audible reading of these books by Jayne Entwistle -the best!! Such great feminism and the mystery and twists and turns and every chapter ends with a great cliffhanger!

This is my favorite Stoker and Holmes book yet! Other than that cliffhanger of course. Can't wait for the next one!

The first 260 pages of this book are Flawess (TM). I refuse to comment on the last five because I'm pretending they don't exist.

(More Grayling dances and Pix disguises and Mina and Evaline being BFFs in the next book, pls. This was delightful.)

The door swung softly behind us, but we were only two or three steps away when I was certain I heard the sound of glass shattering - as if something had been knocked of a table. or thrown against the wall.

So far this was the penultimate for me - not because we have the whole underlying story laid out throughout the book or because the mystery hits the spot - it honestly just had everything I wanted from the series. If the last book bombs I don't care, this one will make up for it.

I adored the character development. Grayling and Evaline were stand out characters for me and I loved every single second.

I'm very patiently waiting for the last book but I'm so addicted and like, book hungover, it's all I can think about. It's not that I want the series to end but that I'm so wrapped up I need to know what happens next.

My one gripe about this book is that the girls refuse to communicate well and I think it's a step back from the last few books. That may have a reason or it may just be that other aspects had the light shone on moreso - for me I loved Mina and how she handled Evaline's difficult spot. I just wish they had shared everything as soon as it happened.

Also, I hate how much I love Grayling and Pix. They're like guilty pleasures and seeing Pix and Mina be so on par with each other intellectually while Grayling and Evaline bond over the steam-cycle last book has caused me so much joy.

I can't describe the whole scene but the fight near the end was magnificent and I could write a whole review about how fantastic 3 lines were that stood out to me.

I enjoyed the book greatly. I am excited for the next book to come out. I have enjoyed all of this series so far but this is probably my least favorite of the 4.

I feel like a bit of a broken record when I review these books, because they are all quite similar but all very entertaining. I'm enjoying the mixture of detective story and fantasy lore, and I thought the ending of this one was particularly good. Looking forward to the finale. 3/5.

I could do without the time travel aspects (they feel so jarring and unnecessary so far?) but the book is good and I'm upset the 5th and final one doesn't come out for a month.
