I understand the importance of this book due to the first hand experience in the holocaust. But, I was not impressed with the writing style or the importance of the content. Some things that were added into the book seemed odd in places. They stuck out. Also, even though this is quite a short book, it took forever to pull me in.

Read this for my Modern Europe course, it posed interesting questions in ways I had not previously thought to view the death/labor camps of the Holocaust. Levi's account showed a much more complex version of Auschwitz and the psyche of different prisoners; with its various factions, the smuggling of supplies in and out of the camp, and all the other methods prisoners used to survive.
