Se questo è un uomo non è un libro facile da leggere. E' una testimonianza realistica e senza artifici dell'esperienza dell'autore, deportato in quanto ebreo, nel campo di concentramento di Monowitz dal 1944 al 1945. Dalle pagine trapela sì condanna, ma non desiderio di vendetta: Levi scrisse quest'opera in modo che nessuno dimentichi ciò che è accaduto e che non si ripeta più, come si può vedere dalla bellissima poesia che introduce il romanzo. Il libro porta però anche a riflettere sul tema della natura dell'umanità: che cosa rende umano un uomo, e fino a che punto esso è definibile tale in una situazione degradante come quella dell'Olocausto? Il tutto è narrato con uno stile sobrio e realistico, che ti immette nella realtà disumana e violenta del campo di concentramento.

let me start of by saying that this is one of the hardest books I have read in a while. it was difficult not in prose and complex structure, but more of the depth and weight of Primo Levi's writing. as he explores the depth and darkness of the human condition in his year at Auschwitz, it was a heavy and dense read on how a way of life was even remotely possible. while Frankl sort to explain how a person could sustain life in such conditions in his book A Man's Search for Meaning, Survival in Auschwitz was Levi's way of explaining what really went on behind the camps and how people did what it took to survive.
