If I had to describe this book in one word it would be outrageous. Although I’ve had the big reveal spoiled for me for years
the fact that Ali had an “evil twin” named Courtney
, it still came so out of left field that I wish I would’ve been able to have a genuine reaction while reading lol. Although this one was entertaining, the series has lost its luster in my eyes - I can’t help but thinking “less is more” as I continue to read on. I think Shepard becomes so focused on creating jaw-dropping moments that the story itself becomes way too unrealistic (even for a far-fetched popcorn read like Pretty Little Liars).

What a finale.
I had my suspicions about CourtnAli. At first I thought it was Ali. Then when she revealed the story of Courtney pretending to be Ali, I thought it actually was Courtney. But man oh man, I did not expect it to be Ali, and the Ali we knew from the past to be Courtney. In all honesty this now feels like that bit from 'Friends': They don't know that we know they know we know... Let's just say CourtnAli was a bit unhinged. I quite like the ending to be honest. I thought it was well written, fast paced, and tense. A part of me wishes one of the 4 would have died. I don't know, I think it would have been interesting and unexpected. That kind of took away from the suspense - I knew all 4 of them would survive.

Anyway, I think this is all wrapped up quite nicely. Apart from that ending sentence. That was unnecessary. I could have written that in Year 2.

Plot twists and lies filled the pages of this book.  When the real Ali comes back and befriends the Pretty Little Liars it’s not all sunshine and rainbows.  But in the end it keeps you wanting more even after the major reveal is over.

Not everything was bad though; Hanna’s mom coming back was such a good moment.  Her dad was so toxic and I’m so glad he isn’t in charge of her anymore.  Aria’s slowly getting better was also really nice to read.

I actually really liked this book more with my re-read, when I first read it I thought it was way too dramatic and ridiculous but now it’s genuinely entertaining and a nostalgic read.
