I listened to the audiobook version recently , although I have read the book before.

The book is an autobiography of Phil Robertson, who went from a life consumed with alcohol and drugs to a Christian speaker and owner of a multimillion dollar business. Robertson holds nothing back as he tells how God changed his life.

Phil Robertson does the audiobook forward himself. His son Al takes over and narrates the rest of the book. He does a great job and is the best choice considering he lived through a lot of the events himself. Anyone who watched Duck Dynasty or listens to the Unashamed podcast knows Phil probably didn’t have the patience to narrate the whole book!

Anyone who enjoys Christian memoirs and Christian nonfiction will enjoy this one. Anyone who wants to read about second chances and forgiveness will enjoy this book.

Since the Robertsons recently discovered that Phil’s wild ways produced a daughter, Phyllis, 45, I’m really hoping for an updated memoir.

Happy, Happy, Happy: My Life and Legacy as the Duck Commander by Phil Robertson and Mark Schlabach
4 stars

Oh, I liked this book!! Inspirational and real-Phil tells it like it is, the good bad and sometimes ugly of his life. From his hard scrabble upbringing to the multi-million dollar Duck Dynasty of today, Phil pulls no punches. Christian values, duck hunting and family are what make Phil happy, happy, happy and he goes into detail of how he grew up, met Miss Kay and raised heck then found the Lord and turned it all around. He was raised hard in rural Louisiana where the whole family pitched in to hunt, fish and work to support themselves. Phil tells of his college football years when he finally realized he liked ducks better than football, stepping aside so a guy named Terry Bradshaw could take over his spot on the team. Drinking, drugs, fights, it's all laid bare in this book. If you are a fan of the show or just want a darn good story then read this book. But be warned--when you finish reading you may want to hunt ducks and go to church both of which will make YOU happy, happy happy! 4 stars

I guess I should just start this review by admitting that I'm really not the target audience for a Duck Dynasty autobiography. For starters, I've never seen the show. I hate hunting. I don't even eat animals. I can't stand long scraggly beards, and I'm really not a fan of all these pseudo-documentaries that clog up every single channel in my guide.

So, why did I read HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY by PHIL ROBERTSON? Honestly, it was only for one reason -- it was on the NY Times Nonfiction best-seller's list, and for whatever reason, at the time that I borrowed this book from the library, it seemed like a good idea to navigate my way through this list as a little January project.

I'm over that project. For the most part, at least.

If you DO watch the show, I'm sure this autobiography is everything you would expect .. and more. Lots of hunting. Duck calls. Down home family talk. That kind of stuff. Yeah.

He hates computers, technology, yuppies, and nerds. He thinks all women should be able to cook and all men should be able to shoot and kill cute little animals.

There is also a lot of preaching, which is fine by me, but I lost interest in the rest of it.

You really don't need a review to know if HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY is something you should read. If you love the show, give it a try. If you've never seen the show and/or you're experimenting with veganism and/or you're just randomly stalking lists from the NY Times -- I'd probably pass.
