Is there such thing as a negative star?
Because if there is, I'd give this one -5

Once again, I've fallen victim to reviews I've read. Not only this book is overrated it's a mess.

And I'm not even talking about the characters yet. I'm talking about the way it was written, I had to force myself to finish this, maybe somewhere in the middle there's the good stuff.

First of all, Greta has no self worth. Seriously like, she's all melting when all he did was treat her bad. That boy was all substance. And the second part of the book? He became a much bigger jack ass. I wanted to throw my reader on the wall. Seriously Greta, he has a girlfriend. One he says the greatest thing that ever happened to him but continually cheat on her with Greata. Technicalities included.

And Elec? Ms Ward, did you really think that he's even redeemable? You made me hate him and not one or ten bibliography will redeem him. He can write all he want, he's a piece of shit that treated Greta and Chelsea as if they didn't possess feelings. He's not a bad boy, he's a bad person. He had no respect whatsoever to Greta nor Chelsea. You lunatic piece of garbage! Why don't you do us a favor and leave the girls alone! Or better yet kill yourself!

Chelsea, you poor girl. You drag your boyfriend to his father funeral only to be dump. If it's any consolation, Elec treats Greta bad.

I had seen so many rave reviews for this & was really looking forward to it.
Unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations for me.
While the idea behind the story intrigued me & there were some seriously hot scenes between the characters, the actually storytelling fell short for me.
I didn't feel the connection between the characters & didn't really care if they ended up together or not. The writing style left me cold instead of making me Feel something.
I wish that the author had written it in alternating POV instead of the whole
SpoilerAutobiography at the end, I mean WTF!
Perhaps I would have been more engaged & invested :(
Also Greta was a huge doormat & aside from her interactions with Elec she was very one dimensional & pale in comparison to Elec who to be fair lit up the page. He & his sexiness gets the two stars all to himself.

This book didn't let me do housework for an entire day! Loved the story and the characters! Greta lived with her mother and stepfather. She didn't meet her stepbrother until one day he came to spend senior year of high school. He had a horrible relation with his father and he was quite horrid to Greta and disrespectful to Greta's mom. Even so, Greta tried to be nice because she saw through the bad attitude to the pain beneath. Little by little they improved to hanging together. Even so, Elec refused to explain why he and his father acted like they hated each other.

Elec was hot and Greta was very attracted but since she detected some rejection from him, she refrained from acting on the attraction. I don't want to spoil it so will only say that things get more involved and a lot of heartfelt emotions develop. At one moment in the story I actually ached for Greta. I loved her character, she was kind, straightforward, caring, and so very noble. Elec was conflicted, but once he got over his nastiness he was playful and considerate. The second part of the book kept me riveted, hoping for a good ending and hoping it would not be a cliffhanger. Great reading!

“I know I’m not supposed to care. But when it comes to you, what I’m supposed to be feeling has never seemed to matter.”

It was okay. I could have done without Elec's POV which was basically a regurgitation of the previous chapters.

Started reading and could sleep until I finished it. Penelope Ward is a wordsmith! Great book. Elec character was built up so well, it was hard not fall in love with him! Greta was believable and likable. You wanted to root for them but knew it was taboo..

Actual Rating: 3.5

This was a great NA read. I thought the chemistry between Greta and Elec was great. They love each other, while trying to move on with their lives. I thought the book was a bit predictable, but the concept was refreshing as well. I thought the characters are great. Can't wait to see what Penelope Ward has next.

This started out as a five star read for me but I found the second half of the book a little disappointing. Part one was great. Sucks you in right away. Greta has a great likable voice and the interaction between her and Elec is clever and entertaining. Their feelings for each other are palpable and off the charts hot. This continues throughout, but there were key parts of the second half of the book that I didn't like. Greta's reading of Elec's book seemed so great at first, a clever way to show Elec's POV. But it quickly felt redundant to me. It retold exactly what just happened with very little new information. I didn't feel like there was that much new insight in hearing the same story from Elec. Besides the bombshell about his family. Finally, I felt that their drama got resolved too quickly. After all the back and forth, it just seemed too easy. Still nice to see a HEA, so I'm not complaining. An enjoyable book but not 5 stars like everyone else is giving.
