I really liked this series, particularly the fact I had no idea how it was going to end. Would gross mutations be revealed to the world? Would our beloved characters defeat evil but live in the FAYZ for the remainder of their days?
Although beginning Light, I started to get a little worried. The Gaiaphage embodied was mostly described by Diana, who was having mummy issues and couldn't seem to decide whether she liked her child or not. The child itself quickly grew from infant to teenage (probably to make the fight scenes less bizarre) although I couldn't shake the image of a superpowered baby rampaging the FAYZ.
Plot was a little light and the battle heavy, good thing Grant does excellent fight scenes. Without giving too much away before a spoiler section, there was death, redemption and horror galore and if anything the danger for the characters was 'almost' on par with GoT.
SPOILER ALERTS
So what really bothered me about the book was the final conclusion(s.) The fight with Gaia was sufficiently epic and enjoyable, but I was confused by Little Pete, the Gaia seemed to believe that Pete needed a 'norm' to possess and was slaughtering them - yet Pete ended up in a Moof? Incidentally the showdown between Gaia and Pete was brief and uninteresting. While I actually respect Grant's simple explanation for the whole fiasco because I wasn't reading the books for the sci-fi factor, the conclusion of everything essentially disappearing and the only beef being what charges the state wanted to bring against the children seemed a little 'meh'
And really what was with Sam's final showdown with Drake? Not only did he not have to do go back to fight him, he didn't defeat him he just got to watch what happened when his powersource went flat.
Anyway not totally despondent about the end to this series, it was sufficiently brutal, I just felt Grant should have pushed the bizarre factor and crafted an ending no-one expected.

The survival rate is impressive considering if Gaia hadn’t have got the lake like two days before the end it would’ve been at like 80% which is crazy. Caine you weren’t a good person but i was still sad for you to die, what do you mean you are gonna leave Diana alone.
Fave character of this book- Lana
Of the series- The breeze :( / Dekka

Where to start? Oh I know I LOVED this book but at the same time hated it. It absolutely destroyed me and broke my heart. Was crying by the end. Again loved the characters and plot and it is just a really well written book.

What an emotional ride... And just action-after-action-after-action. Liked the ending, but curious what happens next because there are still 3 books left!!
