I think I've found my corner of Discworld. I prefer the Guard to Mort or Rincewind. I'll definitely be back for more.

I have been meaning to get into Discworld for a while, and aside from Good Omens I have yet to read a Terry Pratchett book. My expectations were surpassed. I was not aware of the people could write like this: such a different approach to wit and drama but it still builds a story that has stakes and plot twists. It would seem self indulgent or cheap if the entire book wasn't written in the same vein. As it is, Pratchett has a unique and capable grasp on his own style that makes the elegant, impassive face of the High Fantasy Elf that keeps this genre the back of our brains let out a snort, provide a quiet "why not?" and keep turning the pages. I hope to read more soon, and recommend Guards Guards to anyone who is considering Pratchett.

After being yelled at by various book recommendation to read something by Terry Pratchett, I finally sat down and read one. The Discworld series is a little intimidating since it has 30 books in it so I looked into where the best part to jump in was and found the Nights Watch sub-series. Guards!Guards! is the first book in that series.

Filled with humor, puns and wordplay, the recommendations were correct. I will be sure to finish off this subseries and probably move on to other books in the Discworld series.
