Possible mild spoilers.
Good, but the rushed ending leaves an aftertaste of dissatisfaction.
It was also hard to believe the emotional responses of the characters, which basically amount to:
“Sir your child has gone missing and you’ll never see him again.”
“Oh how sad. I guess we just carry on anyway and not stay to look for him.
“Sir you’ve caused the deaths of billions of people.” “Wow that’s crazy, oh well, onwards and upwards.”
“Sir here’s proof that your child is dead.”
“Oh yeah that’s them. So anyway, what are we going to eat? I’m starving!”
I loved The Forever War but this should’ve been set in a new IP.

It's far worse than forever war, it's honestly not worth reading it, the ending is very ham-fisted and out of nowhere.

…what? All of that build-up and intrigue for…that?
Felt like it just wanted to go in so many different directions but every time one path was followed, we’d be torn to another one shortly after. I didn’t dislike it necessarily, but also feel kind of cheated and disrespected.

This was a double disappointment. First the book has a slow build-up to travelling into the future to see how civilization turns out. That doesn't happen. Second the deus ex machina at the end retroactively makes everything that happened not to matter. Okay, third, it's a huge dissappointment compared to Forever War.
It's not one stars only because I enjoyed reading most of it and it had some interesting, if poorly executed ideas.
One other thing that bothers me. I read some other reviews and found people who thought this book mocks religion. I don't think that's the case. At the end everyone conveniently accepts the new concept of God and explanations for miracles, religious people who said throughout the book that science might not know everything are all like "told ya' so", and science is reduced to studying the rules of the videogame people are in. Now as long as you have no reason to think you're in the matrix, science is the very best tool to study reality, and I strongly feel it doesn't need such criticism, even if it's only valid in a fictional setting, poorly written and screws up the plot too.
At the end the book felt like some weird new age dude running around saying some deepity like "god is a videogame designer whoa and we're mario whoa"

I finished the series because I'm a completionist, but that doesn't mean you should.
The third book of the trilogy, revisits characters and world of the first book - both of which were not evident in the second. In that respect, it's almost worth a read.
My main complaint about this book the conclusion, which includes just about the worst instance of Deus ex machina I've encountered in the wild. God-aliens literally show up at the end of the book and resurrect everybody. So frustrating.
