This is a short novel. But a very good one if you read steelheart by Sanderson.
The concept of Mitosis epic is EPIC...

This was a fun little romp into the Steelheart universe. Count on Brandon to be able to not only expand on an existing world in only 35 pages, but to leave us a couple nuggets to make us more excited for Firefight.

A super fun quick read that everyone should pick up (after Steelheart).

Well this was nice little short story after I finished Firefight. Its so sad that I have to wait like 5 months. Its better than having to wait a year like other people. Calamity is definitely one of my highly anticipated release of 2016!

This was okay.

It is a novelette, so there is no real time for a set up - it is 5 chapters of here is the villain, here is the problem - moment of angst - win the day.

I feel as though this is one of those villains who would be in the part one of a bigger story, only to be defeated before the team moves on to the REAL prey of the novel. Kind of a throw away character to me, and the ending was anti-climatic. Brandon Sanderson's longer work was better because time was vested to know about the world, the powers, and the hero and villain. This one was here you go and done. Almost like he had a couple of hours to kill on a plane ride, so he wanted to right this.

I say skip this one, as there is nothing character building within it, and probably has little to nothing to do with Firefight.

I'm really not a fan on these novellas that authors these days feel like they need to stuff them between every book in a series. The more popular series, the more novella infested it is. From time to time, it turns out that the novella in question was really valuable for character and world building. Mostly, they are just empty filler to milk the fans for a little bit more money.

Brandon Sanderson is a very good writer. (One of my favorite in fact.) But I don't feel like this novella was anything special. It was short and I can bet I won't remember anything in a couple of months, except for a cool super power that Mitosis had.

This was a nice little story to come in-between the first two books. It was fun and interesting and added to the mythology of Epics and what their weaknesses are/where they come from. I've read this book once and just recently listened to it on audio book. I enjoyed it both ways. The audio book was pretty good.
