I don’t think King meant this book to be as deep as I read it…or maybe he did! My take on this book is that it was an interesting exploration of how our stuff owns us. The power that our possessions can hold over us, and the lengths we would go to keep them. For example: my house! I put all my time and money into making it nice. You could say I am a slave to my house, in some ways…but a wildfire could come through and take it away tomorrow. Things are fleeting and temporary, but they can possess us and take over our minds. What would we do to keep our stuff, and position in society? Hurt others? And at the end, would it even be worth it? I love Kings longer books and non-horror. So underrated!

This was my first Stephen King book and it did not make me a fan. His thoughts seem disorganized like he just dumped out all his thoughts and published it without editing. It’s jammed packed with triggering content of pretty much every kind for seemingly no reason other than shock value.
