Cleo: The Cat who Mended a Family by Helen Brown

This book begins with a tragic death. Helen's family is trying to deal with their grief when a little kitten comes there way and their lives are forever changed by Cleo. Cleo is an intelligent cat who brings a smile back to their faces when they never thought they would smile again. Cleo immediately becomes part of their family and is an important member of such. This is a must read for cat lovers...but it is not just a cat book. This book is also a well written memoir of a family struck by tragedy and how they overcame that. I loved it.

This book is like a warm hug wrapped in a book. It's a story that dances between sorrow and joy, touching on loss, grief, and the incredible healing power of a cat's love.

This book isn't just about Cleo; it's about how she waltzed into this family's life and brought a whirlwind of emotions. Through moments that are heartfelt and others that bring a smile, Cleo becomes this furry beacon of hope and healing.

The author beautifully captures the essence of loss and how grief can turn lives upside down. But amidst the sadness, there's this gentle humor that lifts the story, reminding us that even in tough times, laughter can find its way through.

What really shines is the depiction of the unique bond between humans and their pets. Cleo isn't just a cat; she's a lifeline, a source of comfort, and a reminder that love knows no bounds.

Why not a full four stars? There were moments when the storytelling felt a tad slow, like a story stretched a bit too thin. But overall, it's a touching, heartwarming read that celebrates the beautiful chaos of life, love, and the unexpected joy a feline friend can bring. Three and a half stars for a book that's a heartfelt tribute to the power of love, loss, and the healing paws of a cat named Cleo.

This is the first audiobook I ever listened to, and I am sure the experience was 10 times better because it was narrated by the author. I will try to do this as much as possible in the future when choosing audiobooks.

The story of how a cat managed to help a family to heal was itself a delight. It was gut-wrenchingly sad at times, as life is, but also full of humour and thoughtfulness. I’d recommend this true story to anyone who loves animals, especially cats, and to those who celebrate all of life - the good, the wonderful and the awful.

*Books 93 - 2014 *

*air mata mrembes*

I liked this book, I didn't LOVE it. It was a nice story about a nice family and a nice cat. In the end I just didn't get very emotionally involved.

There were too many words in the story (I know some of you know what I mean). Too many descriptions and comparisons and just waste. I wasn't sure if I liked all the humans in the books (exceptions, I loved Rob and sympathized with him as the left behind sibling when another dies), but I loved Cleo. I love the power of a good cat.
