This is definitely one of the darkest book I’ve ever read. But holy shit I enjoyed every second of it. I really felt for Ayla the whole book. I can’t imagine the trauma of going through everything she experienced the entire book.

The spice between her and Dain,…. Holy shit. Those sex scene were something else. I love this man. I think I should go back to my therapist after reading this book and liking this dude. But I do…

Also the ending? The reveal? Holy shit. Thank god the next book is already out cause I need it immediately!! I can’t wait to finish this series and see how everything wraps up!!

This book dives deep into the Shadow Man and Lyla's intense, layered relationship, giving us a mix of dark, broody romance and emotional healing. The Shadow Man is everything you'd expect-mysterious, dangerous, and completely obsessed with Lyla. Lyla's story, though heartbreaking, is full of growth, and seeing her step into her own strength was really rewarding.

While this one didn't have as much action as earlier books in the series, it made up for it with all the feels. Their relationship is raw and intense, with some seriously swoon-worthy lines from the Shadow Man that had me blushing. That said, a few parts felt slow, and I found myself wishing for a little more explanation about why the Shadow Man waited so long to rescue Lyla. Still, the emotional depth and twists in the story kept me hooked.

This set the stage perfectly for the final book and I can't wait to start it!

I have mixed feelings about this especially about him. Several times in this book it's mentioned through both of their POVs that his moral compass only works and is limited to her and kids. That's it. Still that didn't stop me for hoping his actions were for greater good and painting him like a hero which he isn't at all. The fact that he could've immediately stopped all those months of suffering but he let them do that, still doesn't sit right with me. So good job Runyx, you delivered a true morally grey character. Reading this book makes me question about morality and i wished things were as simple as black or white. They aren't and that's why this is dark verse for that very reason. I wish I could put my feelings about this in proper words but I don't want to. Let my rating says it all. Runyx, you get flowers from me again 💐 for being so careful with this subject and put Lyla's story in such a delicate way. I love you for that.

P.S Tristan Caine's penthouse looks so boring now. He lost so many points from me like Dante Maroni, the charmer has his Empire his Estate (yeah generational weath), Alpha created his Empire from scratch with exotic looking resort like estate, Now Mr. Blackthorn screams Billionaire with the mansion he created in the mountains just for his girl! Uuuffff. Yeah Tristan Caine can leave with his bike idc 🥱.

Before Reading:

First of all I’m writing this sentence before I read the book, to remind myself that I’m terrified of this book. I remember when I first read the series I stopped here because the Shadowman has been such a huge figure since like Book 1. So to actually hear what he’s got going on felt like going on a super tall and fast roller coaster. And here is how it ended up feeling….

While Reading:
🤢😭😩🙃🤬🤬☠️🫨😱😳🥺

After Reading:

I thought Tristan Cane was the definition of obsession. I WAS SOOO WRONG. Dainn Blackthorn wow takes the cake on obsessed men. (I still love Tristan more for obvious reasons)

I think the critique of this book is valid but I feel like the author was really upfront that this character isn’t good. So I think the surprise that she was right…? I mean come on. This man is a sociopath (or a psychopath I really can’t remember the difference)

This book is severely traumatizing like WOW. I thought what the other FMC went through was bad…this really might be the worst experience a FMC went through that I read, and I knew it would be bad but THIS BAD?

I really hope the next book is just full of everyone getting their get back. I can only pray.

That was amazing.
Now I have to wait for the last book.
And I need it like I need water at this point.
The audio is narrated by Heather Stonewell and Gregory Salinas. They are perfect.

Time to bring the light on the Shadow Man.
He is obsessed, he is meticulous, he had planned everything and beyond.
Every piece of each previous books and stories are settling into place.
His obsession is Lyla. For the past 6 years.
His goal: destroying the Syndicate.
But who is Lyla?
What is her place in this maze?

Tropes:
Stalker
Psychopath
Touch her and die
Does everything to empoyer her
Helicopter are the new motorcycle
