I really enjoyed this novel, the east-west theme was brilliantly crafted and the main protagonist was quite unique. Great story about womanhood, motherhood and freeing yourself from chains to become yourself again ⛓.

Thank you NetGalley / Orion Publishing Group for providing me with this arc in exchange for an honest review

I'll start by saying this novel felt like it was written more like a memoir rather than a story. There was a lot of inner dialog, and several chapters go by where nothing even happens. While the author has undeniable talent, her writing style for this genre just isn't for me. I expected less talk and more action, and I felt that more could've been done with this story. It was a quick read, but it moved so slow.

Albeit, I really was charmed reading about Japanese culture and life in Tokyo. I also found some aspects of the main character to be relatable.
