DCI Morton gets confronted this time with the most difficult case of his entire career. What do you do when your own son could be the main suspect in a murder investigation? What would you do? Would you turn him in, or would you do everything in your power to protect him and prove his innocence? But sometimes that's not an easy task and the price can be too high. Is Morton ready to pay for it? You will have to read the book to discover that.
This book poses a very interesting topic in questioning the ethics and moral of the main protagonist. It's also a good insight into the world of cults. The characters are well developed, so we can follow their growth and role in the story without problems.
The pace is good, and it releases bits of information little by little, like breadcrumbs that the reader can follow in order to find out who was the murderer. In that respect, it's a great whodunnit story.
Overall, a great finale for a great series. I will miss DCI Morton.
