The beginning of the book started so well. With interesting characters to explore after seven years, tension was incredibly high and it was just intriguing.
I believe the main problem of the book is Simon. He is such a frustrating and misogynist character, which fits the era, but doesn’t stop him from me wanting to strangle him. Also, he’s a Tory. I think that’s pretty self explanatory.
Another thing, he did have a tragic backstory, however, that doesn’t change how simply awful he is.
I was really rooting for him to die halfway through the book so that Louisa could get herself a better husband. Oh well
