I mostly enjoyed this, the atmosphere is fabulous, but I don't feel like it all came together in the end. I'm not going to get into spoilers, but the prologue of the book made no sense with the rest of it, and I didn't find the conclusion satisfying. Like what did it mean, exactly? There was too much was-it-all-a-dream and is-she-crazy stuff (my two least favourite tropes!) for me to be fully on board. And the only character I really cared about was the bird. I will say, as a seasonal mood reader I struggle with what to read in non-vibey months like November, and this was actually a perfect November read! It just felt Novembery? Like dark-woodsy but not Christmassy? So thank you for that, book!
I will definitely read from C. J. Cooke again, I loved The Lighthouse Witches and her writing is wonderfully atmospheric.

Nothing happens?
There were some cool pieces setup (folklore bits, the main character's questionable behaviour) that were just abandoned later for a lakcluster, out of nowhere twist.
Felt so confused and cheated by the ending too. It was a waste of a good setup and setting.

I have such mixed feelings about The Nesting! It’s hard to even decide exactly where I land on this.
To start with the good - I was 100% drawn in to the gothic moody vibes of this book. A woman takes a role as a nanny at a remote home in Norway and pretty quickly some spooky stuff starts to happen. Is there anything creepier than a young kid saying “but the Sad Lady won’t like that”
