I never read the original book but the cover art piqued my interest so decided to give this a try. I thought the art style was interesting, but overall the plot didn’t keep me invested in it and I didn’t feel much connection to the characters. Not sure if this was due to the short format, but overall it was just an okay read for me.

I enjoyed this graphic novel. And the 2 embroidered pages are so beautiful! Makes me want to read the novel and get into the series!!

A great interpretation of the book! I thought the art was engaging and the way that they adapted the story gave just enough information to weave the tale. It doesn't compare to the original, but it makes for its own great story!

It has been a hot minute since I read the original Graceling and sequels, but from what I do recall, this was a solid adaptation. The art was beautiful, especially some of the backgrounds. It also showcased the action well and brought the world to life. Part of the reason I'm not a big high fantasy reader is because I have aphantasia and thus struggle to get a sense of the world, since I am unable to picture it. This is, of course, strictly a me problem, but graphic novels do seem to help, which is a definite plus for this adaptation.

Still on the art train, there were several opportunities to take advantage of the visual medium, and this did not miss any of them. The scene where Katsa tells her king that she's leaving and she won't do his bidding anymore comes to mind, as she's explaining/thinking through how the fight will go if the guards attack her. That was awesome.

There were some things with the pacing that I thought could have been tighter and cleaner, but I suspect they stem from the original, rather than the graphic novel. Though now I am interested and mildly apprehensive to see how these particular spots are handled in the original book, if I noticed them here.

Looking forward to rereading the original, because this totally reminded me how much I liked it the first time I read it.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would! I read the first 105 or so pages at Barnes & Nobles a few months ago cause I loved the original Graceling when I read it years ago but I didn’t like it enough to justify buying it so I had to wait like 2 months for it to come off hold from the library which was saddd lol -
But overall I’d definitely say this was worth the wait and tbh I think the second half was a lot better and got a lot more exciting then the first half was
But ya overall solid 4 star book for me and it kinda makes me wanna read the rest of the actual Graceling series cause somehow I never did that when I originally read it in middle school or high school or whenever it was
