John Barrowman is very good looking and sings well, which is just as well because I don’t think I’d have been interested in reading this to the end otherwise. His story is interesting enough, but his limitations as a writer show through when he explains that he visited the Dome on the Rock, which he helpfully explains is “an Islamic temple in Jerusalem”. And the constant footnotes are amusing enough to begin with but the joke wears thin after twenty pages. Especially when he points out he has taught you a new word like triptych. 1
But he’s talented, good-looking, wealthy beyond measure (as he tells us in the book) so he doesn’t need to write well, even with his sister’s help.

Three stars instead of four simply because the format the stories are told in are better suited to an interview style rather than a book. I enjoy JB quite a lot, I'm a theatre nerd. However, I think Carole (his sister, who basically transcribed stories he recorded for her), already being an experienced and published author, could have made more of an effort to arrange the stories in a linear timeline. They jump around a LOT, and sometimes he tells a story within a story within a story, and it can be difficult to keep everything straight.

This was one of the best books I've read in a while! John Barrowman writes in such an engaging way and I honestly didn't want to put the book down. Also, his footnotes are hilarious! A must-read for any Barrowman fan!

Reading this book is like having John Barrowman himself sitting right next to you, telling you about his life. Which is why I love this book so much. It is not written in this episode after episode kind of fashion. It is written as if he is telling his story to you at that exact moment. There's sidetracks and there are funny comments. This is how a autobiography should be written!
If you are a fan of John Barrowman, like myself, this book is a must!

John Barrowman does something really well that most people can't pull off: he's incredibly cocky and sure of his own beauty and talent and STILL you love him. I saw Barrowman last year and Dragon*Con and he and Scott surprised the entire audience by dropping their pants to show everyone their superhero briefs. That might give you an idea about how this books goes.
I really enjoyed reading this. In fact, it sent me down to my basement to search through old playbills! I took a trip with my grandmother when I was in high school to London. One of the things we did was see Miss Saigon at the Theatre Royale on Drury Lane. So, at the first mention of Barrowman appearing as Chris in the show, I couldn't believe it! Later, he mentioned that he did it in '93. I quickly tried to remember exactly when I was there. I thought it was summer before my Junior year of high school, which would have been '93. Alas, when I went to the basement to dig out my playbill, I found that I was wrong and I'd actually been the next year. So sad. I was hoping he'd come back to Dragon*Con this year so I could get that playbill signed! Oh well.
