The jump in quality from 'Crito' to 'Phaedo' is absolutely lethal whiplash.

Euthryphro and Crito were the most readable and understandable even if I didn't agree with some of the Ideas in Crito. While very interesting, Phaedo was difficult to understand.

This book follows the story of Socrates' death while also exploring deep philisophical themes of mortality, justice and the soul. One of my favourite Plato dialogues, and also extremely readable if you don't normally like dense philisophical texts.

The trial itself is fascinating, so five stars for that, but I didn't like this translation. A much better one (that was assigned reading in an honors English class in college) is [b:Defence of Socrates/Euthyphro/Crito|6091408|Defence of Socrates, Euthyphro, and Crito|Plato|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1347355476l/6091408._SY75_.jpg|386526].
