I loved the way this book handled serious topics and I loved the themes and characters too. This book was also easy to read and could make for a good weekend read. My only complaint is that I feel like the story could definitely be longer since some plot points weren't as fully explored. Overall, a very good read!

Ah. It’s a pretty heavy book, but the topics covered are done so beautifully. This book took me awhile to properly get into (along with life getting busy), but I found that it was easy to finish once I really decided to sit and read it.

Perhaps didn’t love the last POV so much (in terms of how the magical realism came into play), but overall, as a story, the work felt whole and moving. I definitely want to get into more of Goenawan’s work in the future.

Aside from how I liked this book, I can see why the story and writing style could put other readers off. Also, the TWs are important, as the topics in the story can be triggering.

Up to the 58% mark, this was a solid 4 star read. Then everything was just upended.

I love magical realism, but in this case it took me away from the story instead of immersing me in it. And what it achieved could have been done perfectly without it.

Felt like an easy copout to wrap up the story.

Slight glorification of suicide aside, this is a fantastic book. Characters are so compelling and rich, and I really felt like I was learning and growing them. I would recommend it to anyone
