Catherine Ryan Hyde is such an amazing storyteller that I often wonder why I put off picking up her books for so long. I had Allie and Bea on my Kindle for months, scrolling past it without much thought. The story isn't going to leave you on the edge of your seat but it will grip you from the beginning and let you feel all the feels that these two amazing women feel.

Without question, this is a story about family. The type of family that you choose. The friends that BECOME family. Even when it is a completely unlikely pairing.

This one was just such fun. Reading about Bea and Allie and their different - often-times - clashing personalities was just a joy. They were both lost and lonely souls who stumbled upon each other while going through some of the worst times of their lives. An unlikely pair, they made their way up the western coast of the US and found some unique treasures, both along the coast and with each other.

The relationship and bond that formed between them was an unlikely one, but one that felt authentic. The ending was slightly too perfect for me, but at the same time, it was a beautiful cherry on top to an extremely enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it, especially for a nice summer read.

It was a sweet story, and it kept me interested enough to read the it all the way through, but it's just an ok book. Not great, not bad. I found the characters a little hard to relate to, as they made some very bad decisions. The author tried to write it so would you would understand why Allie (a teen runaway) and Bea (an elderly woman) got themselves into these predicaments, but I just couldn't relate. I had trouble feeling much sympathy for Bea after she tries to scam a little girl. It also seemed like the author was trying to make a point at times, and that tends to annoy me. The one thing that Bea couldn't get over was the attachment to the expensive phones that people have today. Yes, as a whole we are too attached to our phones and electronics, but few parents are going to shrug off a child losing 3 or 4 phones a year. Also, if an elderly person comes and asks for help, people are going to let her make a call without a fuss, but they are going to dial for her. Have you seen the majority of octogenarians (I'm assuming) try to work an iphone? No one is just handing it to her. She sounded more like a grumpy old lady ranting on Facebook, than anything else. I see and hear enough of that already. In the end the story was sweet and it was an ok read, but forgettable and not something I would recommend.

For not being a thriller, this book had my heart pumping throughout the book. Unforeseen circumstances caused Allie and Bea’s paths to cross. Their adventure was one that kept me turning pages to find out what was going to happens next. This was a quick, easy read.

Another wonderful book from Catherine Ryan Hyde. I found myself smiling and cheering the characters on as usual. While I always expect to come away from one of this author's books optimistic and recharged in my belief in the good of people, I do not find her books formulaic.

Really enjoyed this book. Even though there were some heavy topics in the book, it was very heart warming. I loved the relationship between Allie and Bea and it couldn't have ended in a better way!
