More like a 2 and a half - a bit directionless and disjointed, and the basic thesis was a bit of a stretch.

The premise of this book is great and the first half is such a fascinating read, particularly the chapters on book making and Viking settlements but after that I found it a bit of a chore to finish.

Such an interested examination with great asides.
Didn't actually take me this long to read it, I just finished listening to it in a few days, but was my nighttime read and the beginning didn't grab me much at first, but really interesting.
