Read as part of the storygraph genres challenge 2024

Sweet little memoir, but nothing groundbreaking. Looking forward to maybe trying out a recipe or two!

I am madly in love with this book. This is possibly one of my favorites of all time and definitely one of my favorites this year. It’s beautiful, authentic, and it comes with recipes at the end! I read this in one sitting it was THAT GOOD

I adored Phyllis’s blog for years and realized recently I forgot to read her memoir when it came out. I only wish there were more of it! My kind of cook.

Picked this book up from the library with no expectations except that I liked that it’s a memoir by a chef and she talks about self-identity and morherhood. And the book was exactly about those. Very fast read, managed to finish it within a day (can’t rmb the last time I did this) but yes Phyllis Grant’s storytelling makes it really emotional yet easy to follow. Especially the parts where she was detailing her pregnancy and postpartum depression.

This memoir is in, uh, digestible parts, which is a smart approach to a book about food and the body. It’s written remarkably well, and I’d like to read more from this author. However, I never was confident in the narrative. Was this, for example, a memoir about food? I’m not sure it was. I’m not sure how it was about control, exactly. I wonder, though, if this is a book that will deepen for me when I reread it, which I suspect I will.
