Juliet the Maniac follows an average girl growing up in the late '90s, battling various mental disorders in addition to typical teenage struggles. Escoria's writing is raw, lyrical, and intimate, and although my experiences are vastly different than Juliet's, I still felt seen as someone with anxiety and OCD. The way Escoria writes about feelings of otherness and hopelessness struck me. I wish this book existed when I was a teenager! Books like this are crucial for people who struggle with mental health, so they know they're not alone.Â
Graphic: Self harm, Suicide attempt, Suicidal thoughts, Panic attacks/disorders, and Forced institutionalization
Moderate: Alcohol and Toxic friendship
