de Sala created a truly original concept, weaving a magical world of bent realities and nightmares. The lore was incredibly interesting, and I'd love to spend longer there. While I loved the world, I struggled to connect as much with the protagonists. However, the Queer rep - both villains and heroes - was so wonderful to read!

“Reverie” by Ryan La Sala is queer YA modern fantasy about a grumpy teenager and his friends who have to save their community from its own imaginations made real.  It’s about found and real family, figuring out choices and consequences, and has the best drag queen villain.  Fun characters, lots of action, and trippy alternate universes.

Super fun world building with complex characters and an unpredictable plot!! So many twists and turns I never once guessed what would happen next. Lovely underlying message and sooo unapologetically queer. Loved it!

A solid 3 star read that is only not rated higher based on personal enjoyment — hard sci-fi and fantasy can be a little hard for me to get into sometimes, as well as fast past action scenes which this was full of. HOWEVER, this was an incredibly creative idea for a novel — one that made you think, one that made you want to pick apart the mechanics, and it was clear to tell that the author cared for every character. The story developed very naturally, which is impressive considering the speed with which it needed to maintain. It was all put together incredibly well and had a little bit of several different elements and genres for most readers to enjoy. I would recommend this book to people who like to dissect different worlds and complex storylines, who enjoy a little bit of a sci-fi/fantasy/magic element that comes off with a bit of anime flare.
