Everything I’ve come to expect from a D.D. Warren instalment.

I am a little behind on this book series, and am finally getting around to playing catch-up. Just like the previous six books in the series this one did not disappoint. There were a lot of twists to the crime, as well as some unnerving moments – one in particular had me gasping aloud. D.D. has always been a favourite of mine, so it was tough to read the first chapter when she was hurt at a crime scene, as well as the parts where she was dealing with a lot of pain from her physical injuries. But she was still as brave and tough as ever, and still investigating even while on sick leave. I didn’t think it was quite as good as ‘Catch Me’ (an absolute winner for me), as there were some lags in the plot, as I waited impatiently for something to happen, and some bits I found a little far-fetched, but still an excellent read, with a satisfying ending. Crossing my finger D.D. is back on duty, and fully healed, in the next book. Will have to read and see...

I am a big fan of Lisa Gardner's books. Mostly because of the unique story lines.
She takes the thriller from being an average, cop catches the bad guy, to a unique thriller, with each character having a trait and a story line which makes you wonder who the killer is.
In the beginning, i wondered how shana was just in prison and not given a death sentence because of her killings. But by the end, i felt sorry that she was actually in prison.
Human mind is so complex with feelings that a person who has issues in connecting with anyone, social disorders, can actually still connect to their siblings and protect them at any cause.
The disorder of not being able to feel pain! That was new and got me thinking on what would happen if that was the case!
A very well written fast paced novel.

Although this *is* a crime thriller, the crime seems to take a back seat
to the sometimes surprising sibling bond and the almost philosophical discussion of pain, making this a most unusual novel. Expect more introspection from many of the major players, and some strange insights along with the thrill of the chase and the more gruesome aspects.

YALL. I found a SIGNED COPY of this book at Value Village (Canadian secondhand chain) for $5.99!!! The way I SCREAMED!!! I can't believe someone would give this away.

Writing: 4/5 | Plot: 3.5/5 | 4/5

SYNOPSIS

Detective DD Warren may be down with an injury, but you can never count her out! Even with her bum shoulder, she's determined to figure out who the skin-flaying psycho is and their connection to the infamous Day family.

MY OPINION

Why yes I did give b2b 2 stars to [b:Look For Me|35106781|Look For Me (Detective D.D. Tbh it was just because I was so OVER Flora. [b:Find Her|25644437|Find Her (Detective D.D. ANYWAYZZ enough about the past... let's get into it.

I really enjoyed this mystery and its kooky cast of characters. DD was going through it but she was less of an asshole than the rest of the series I've read so cheers to that. I loved learning about Dr. Adeline Glen and her rare genetic disorder that prevents her from feeling pain. My initial reaction was that must be so nice, but Gardner did a great job of showing the other side of this: no pain = no boundaries = death. More or less

A fun read, but not one that's gonna stick with me. The plot seemed hampered by the main character's injury and spent more time on her recovery than the actual murder mystery, which was less interesting to me. I did thoroughly enjoy the ending though, and it was another very solid read from Lisa Gardner.
