It was a good book, I thought some parts were a little strange and felt weird, but that may just be me. Other than that, highly recommend!

I love the contrast between dark and light, good and evel. this book kept me intrigued in the way that the lines were somewhat blurred. I had a soft spot for Skye the moment i started reading and i just want to be her best friend now that i finished the book! watching her grow into who she is was very relatable! the ending was a little unexpected however now i am ready for the next book!! little did i know i was getting myself into another series!! loving me some more angels (:

This book was absolutely amazing. Asher is my new book crush. The ending was really surprising. I'm really mad at devin :( can't wait to read a fractured light.

Son of a.....cliffhanger?!
What the...so mean!
Seriously though, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and now I am eagerly waiting for September. So many good books coming out in September!

What did this book have that made it stand out to me?

A love triangle/quadrangle that did not make me want to puke
Non-ridiculous names for angelic/demonic/new guys (I am also a huge fan of the name Ash/Asher)
A lead female who didn't piss me off
Lead female who when faced with the possibility that she is 'different' doesn't go in to a total meltdown-only a mild one
She stands up for herself

I picked up the second book (not realizing it was a sequel) when getting my new book of the month from this ARC program I'm in. I went to read this one first and, well, I wasn't that happy with either of them.

The book seemed interesting enough, and because it seemed a little like the Hush, Hush series, which I did enjoy. But I feel like the first book dragged on without making a real progress until the very end.

I'm not all that impressed with this book. I hadn't read a fantasy novel in a while and was really excited that this one peeked my interest but alas it wasn't what I thought it would be.

Here's my thing about this book. I know I enjoyed it. Beyond that, I truly don't remember a thing. Skye, I think her name was? I don't even remember the names of the guys or her friends. I barely read this book a few weeks ago. You'd think I'd remember more. That only proves to me that this book, while a brief entertainment (despite its clichés), is not very memorable as a storyline. There is nothing original about it all or I think I would have remembered it more. It was a quick read and I did like it while I read it but in the words of YouTuber Jeremy Jahns, you won't remember it in T-Minus 10 seconds after.

Skye’s life is rather ordinary. She lives with her adoptive mother since her parents died the day of her sixth birthday, she goes to high school and hopes to be accepted in Colombia and she’s part of the ski team. So far, nothing too out-of-the-box, but it’s about to change. The night of her seventy-seventh birthday party, two boys – new in town – gets in a fight. Turns out they are both new student at her school and seems to be strangely into her and to top it all, weird things start happening.

I know my introduction is rather vague, but I did it on purpose! We don’t really know what’s going on until very late in the book and I don’t want to spoil anything for you guys. The whole A Beautiful Dark plot is surrounded by a thick layer of mystery. As the story progresses you have a pretty good idea of what’s going on, but Jocelyn adds a really nice twist to her lore. I think one of my favorite moment is when Asher talks about a family legend around a camp fire, on a ski trip.

I found the characters to be quite interesting. Skye is tormented and full of insecurities but Asher and Devin really steal the show. They are secretive and mysterious. Sometimes they act interested, other times they are cold and I loved that there is more to them than meets the eye.

The end was a killer. I still can’t believe Jocelyn is cruel enough to let us hang like that until the next book. I was completely stunned and I’m really anxious to see the consequences of what happened.

A Beautiful Dark will definitely appeal to fans of Fallen by Lauren Kate because it has the same kind of inscrutable atmosphere and love triangle.

The naked truth: this book was really lame. At times it seemed like it was just trying to copy Twilight. Nice try... But... NO.
