Not sure how to rate this. This is a novel about depression. It’s almost a stream of consciousness but not quite, pretty much internal monologue about… depression. I would not recommend reading this unless you’re in a good place mentally, if I hadn’t finished this in pretty much one sitting I think it would have fucked me up. Luckily I don’t feel triggered by the same thoughts that consume the main character so I’m all good but damn that was heavy for what I thought would be way more lighthearted.

‘Think about it, we’re just ghosts inside skeletons, inside skin bags, floating on a rock in space.’
In structure, voice and story, this was so refreshing to read and incredibly moving as a depiction of depression. I’ve never read anything like Everyone In This Room Will Someday Be Dead. I’m not sure I ever will again — this is so special. I really didn’t expect where it went, particularly in part five, but the slow unspooling of anxiety into every cell in Gilda’s body struck quite close to the bone.
This book is so funny and so dark and I loved it. I want to hug Gilda so tightly — but perhaps because that’s what *I* need after this year.
